Adequacy of intermittent renal replacement techniques and survival of ICU patients with acute kidney injury.

چکیده
showed that female gender is not a significant risk factor for calciphylaxis, while we did not collect data regarding body mass index. Furthermore, the hypotensive episode is not unusual in the patients on chronic hemodialysis, and warfarin is also commonly prescribed. Based on these facts and very low prevalence rate of calciphylaxis, we consider that some determinative factor, which is required to induce calciphylaxis in addition to known risk factors, is missing. For the prevention and therapy of calciphylaxis, we should search this missing factor in the future studies.

Continuous renal replacement therapy in intensive care unit
Acute renal failure (ARF) requiring dialysis is a common complication of patients in intensive care unit (ICU). Dialysis can be performed with either intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). CRRT is associated with less hemodynamic instability. Therefore, it is preferred in critically ill and hypotensive patients in ICU. However, current evidence does not ...
متن کاملPatient and kidney survival by dialysis modality in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury.
Using a large, international cohort, we sought to determine the effect of initial technique of renal replacement therapy (RRT) on the outcome of acute renal failure (ARF) in the intensive care unit (ICU). We enrolled 1218 patients treated with continuous RRT (CRRT) or intermittent RRT (IRRT) for ARF in 54 ICUs in 23 countries. We obtained demographic, biochemical and clinical data and followed ...
متن کاملImportance of RIFLE (Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss, and End-Stage Renal Failure) and AKIN (Acute Kidney Injury Network) in Hemodialysis Initiation and Intensive Care Unit Mortality
Our study evaluated the differences between early and late hemodialysis (HD) initiation in the intensive care unit (ICU) according to the RIFLE (Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss, and End-stage renal failure) and AKIN (Acute Kidney Injury Network) classifications. On the assumption that early initiation of HD in critical patients according to the RIFLE and AKIN criteria decreases mortality, we retros...
متن کاملA randomized clinical trial of continuous versus intermittent dialysis for acute renal failure.
BACKGROUND Acute renal failure (ARF) requiring dialysis in critically ill patients is associated with an in-hospital mortality rate of 50 to 80%. The worldwide standard for renal replacement therapy is intermittent hemodialysis (IHD). Continuous hemodialysis and hemofiltration techniques have recently emerged as alternative modalities. These two therapies have not been directly compared. METH...
متن کاملComparison of continuous and intermittent renal replacement therapy for acute renal failure.
BACKGROUND Mortality rates of critically ill patients with acute renal failure (ARF) requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT) are high. Intermittent and continuous RRT are available for these patients on the intensive care units (ICUs). It is unknown which technique is superior with respect to patient outcome. METHODS We randomized 125 patients to treatment with either continuous venovenous ...
